Tikkun Olam
Social Justice / Tikkun Olam
Am Tikvah is proud of its commitment to Tikkun Olam (repair of the world) and social justice work.
We have a Social Justice Committee, whose chair actively publicizes local, state and national initiatives and opportunities to be involved in legislative advocacy, voting and refugee resettlement support, and other issues.
We are also founding members of the Southside Jewish Collaborative Tikkun Olam Committee. This group plans and participates in such activities as:
- Lunch-bag preparation for San Francisco homeless
- Volunteering at St. Anthony’s Dining Room
- Volunteering at the S.F./Marin Food Bank
- Organizing E-waste days for proper recycling of electronic products
- Organizing collections of clothing, housewares, school supplies, toiletries, etc. for St. Anthony’s and the Jewish Family and Community Services-East Bay’s refugee resettlement program
- Organizing bi-annual Tikkun Olam Days which invite our collaborative synagogues to participate in beach clean-ups, blood drives, lunch-bag prep for the homeless
- Other projects to benefit the broader community.
